For those suffering from multiple sclerosis, everyday may seem like an uphill battle. Symptoms such as numbness, fatigue, vision problems, dizziness, pain, anxiety, depression, cognitive ability and more can be helped with the use of miraculously medicinal herbs.
Turning to herbal supplements to treat multiple sclerosis, offers many much-needed relief from painful symptoms. The herbs discussed here are supported by medical studies to be effective at relieving many MS symptoms.
This list is, my opinion, compiled of the best herbs to treat Multiple Sclerosis. So, without further ado, let’s dive in!
Ginkgo Biloba
Ginkgo Biloba is a common herb, found mostly anywhere that herbal supplements are sold. I put this at the top of this listing due to the wide range of Multiple Sclerosis symptoms that it can help manage. Ginkgo Biloba acts as a neuroprotective as well, slowing, and reducing damage to the brain’s neurons.
During a 12-week study, a 240 mg daily dose was shown to improve cognitive function in MS patients. It also has been evidenced, to help symptoms of fatigue, and weakness, in a different study at the same 240 mg daily dose.
Aside from studies targeting ginkgo biloba use in MS patients, the herb is known to alleviate IBS symptoms, depression, and even help with issues of sexual dysfunction.
Ginkgo Biloba is generally safe for users, however interactions with blood thinning drugs, antidepressants (both SSRI and MOAI), as well as NSAIDS (ibuprofen, etc.) occur, and should not be taken together! If you have questions about this, ask your pharmacist or doctor as they will be able to compare current treatments vs. ginkgo biloba for interactions.
CBD and THC
This treatment fell second on this list, due to its legality in some areas. CBD and THC treatment is best for improving the symptoms of pain and limited mobility.
For those that are concerned about the “high” that THC may produce, taking the CBD alongside THC negates some negative effects associated with THC, such as anxiety.
The symptoms that CBC and THC treat are pain, inflammation, urinary incontinence, urinary frequency, insomnia, loss of appetite, nausea, spasticity, poor motor function, and a much more.
CBD and THC can reduce inflammation in the brain and even remyelinate neurons. Remyelination of these can actually restore some lost cognitive and motor function.
CBD and THC go hand in hand to treat MS. CBD can be taken alone to treat this disease, but to get the maximum benefit, you need both. A 1:1 ratio is recommended achieve optimal results.
The most commonly recommended effective dosage is 2.5 mg CBD / 2.5 mg THC in the form of an oral spray up to 48 times a day.
Black Cumin
Black cumin, also commonly referred to as black caraway or black seed oil, is Nigella Sativa. Nigella Sativa given as an extract has been shown to also reduce inflammation and enhance remyelination in MS patients. The dose given was 2.8 mg of nigella sativa extract per kg of weight.
The positive effects of black cumin are improved brain function and improved mobility. The remyelination, also slows disease progression in many.
Ginger
Common ginger, is natural remedy that has a plethora of benefits. Ginger is anti inflammatory, and can help people with MS achieve greater mobility. Reducing inflammation is a great way to reduce overall pain. Ginger extract in 200mg to 300 mg daily doses is recommended.
Using ginger extract is not the only way to enjoy this herbal remedy. You can add freshly grated ginger root to tea, or any other beverage, including plain ole water, to enjoy its benefits.
Ginger is well-known in aiding digestion as well. It may curb IBS symptoms that some with MS often experience.
Evening Primrose Oil
Evening primrose oil has been proven in medical studies to reduce pain and inflammation, increase energy, improve cognitive function, and improve overall quality of life for MS sufferers.
A one gram gel capsule of evening primrose oil extract was administered every 12 hours, in a 12-week study. The results across the board showed positive changes and symptom relief.
This treatment does not slow the progression of the disease itself, but does make daily life with MS more manageable.
There is Always More
The list of herbs that can help with MS is infinite. Some more herbs worth mentioning are Green Tea, Panax Ginseng, St. John’s Wort, and Saffron extract.
Knowing where to look and what to look for, is only half of the battle versus MS. With greater knowledge of options and treatments, you will, hopefully, find a solution that works for you.
Before beginning any of these treatments, be sure to consult with your physician or pharmacist, to check for drug interactions, or any other health conditions which may cause complications from using any herbal treatments.

I am very glad I came across this post and stopped to read it from beginning to end, as it left on a very positive note. I was in the beginning of my own journey with MS and the depression it’s was giving me was unbearable , I found some encouragement from several blogs and last year in seeing Rochelle make her personal goals after overcoming the disease with natural medicine I have to tried it also .I’ve kind of resigned to the fact that this is how life will be for me back until I found herbs that stop this multiple sclerosis easily and relief all the Fatigue and other symptoms I was experiencing ,I’m passing this info to anyone at there because multivitamincare. org has the right cure and caregiver to this disease ….I took various supplements, medicine prescribed by neurologist, massage and physiotherapy still the disease is was progressing very fast until the the MS formula from that caregiver .
I am so glad that you were able to find a natural supplement that works for you! I truly appreciate the feedback and please stop by anytime to read something that will hopefully uplift, bring peace, and knowledge. Thank you for stopping by!
