Since the eyes are the windows to the soul, it is no surprise that mankind has the desire to showcase them.
Long, thick lashes are coveted by those of us that weren’t fortunate enough to inherit them. False lashes can, over time ruin your mission to make your eyelashes grow naturally.
Being that my own eyelashes needed some coaxing, I made it my business to find a natural way to make eyelashes grow.
After little trial and error, I have some personal favorites. Simple, effective, and inexpensive these tricks are nothing short of a miracle. Finding your favorite, natural way to make eyelashes grow, only requires persistence and a few cheap ingredients!
Castor Oil for Eyelashes?
Castor oil for eyelashes? Uh, yes please! The infamous clear, syrup-like laxative has a few tricks up its sleeve. Castor oil has antibacterial properties, as well as nutrients that are essential to healthy hair follicles.
Before drifting off into a peaceful slumber, spend 2 minutes giving your lash area this mini beauty treatment.
Ensure that the eye area is free of dirt and make-up. Using a cotton swab or clean finger, dab a drop of castor oil on both the upper, and lower, eyelids at the lash line.
Avoid getting directly into the eyes! Gently massage the oil into the lash line, to stimulate circulation to those hair follicles.
Take care not to pull or tug on your eyelashes. Sleep the entire night with castor oil on the lashes. In the morning simply rinse away any excess oil with warm water. Repeat nightly for as long as you like!
Expect to see results in 60 to 90 days. That is the gold standard time frame to wait for noticeable changes to be seen. As per my own experience, the difference was obvious much sooner.
I used a generic, store brand, castor oil from a local pharmacy. Within 2 weeks my lash line appeared fuller. I was very surprised by how quickly this worked. Try this method first, you may not need to look any further.
Olive Oil, Obviously!
Olive oil is a jack of all trades. If you have a problem, chances are, that somehow, in some way, olive oil can help fix it. Olive oil contains a powerhouse of the good stuff, Omega-3, Omega-6 and Vitamin E, just to name a few. Olive oil can be applied in the same manner, as detailed above, that castor oil is used. Another option for olive oil application, is to use a lash brush to brush the oil directly onto lashes from root to tip.
You’ll have to wait about 6 weeks to see substantial growth results. Until then, enjoy the healthy sheen that olive oil leaves on your lashes!
Coconut’s Marvelous Milk!
When I think of milk, I think in terms of beverage. Perhaps it’s a rather unconventional use of this natural thirst quencher, but coconut milk has the goods to get the job done. Swipe across the lashes with a coconut milk soaked cotton ball, and relax for 10 to 15 minutes with the milk on the eyelashes. When your time is up, rinse away the residue with tepid water. Repeat this regimen twice daily for the usual 60-90 days, to achieve optimal growth.
The Green Tea Technique
Green tea is a well-known catalyst of good health and natural healing. Flavanoids, the driving force behind its medicinal properties, are found in abundance in the green elixir. Anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antihistamine effects are a modest introduction to the countless benefits of drinking green tea. It’s an absolute good for your body, inside and out.
Brew a small cup of unsweetened green tea, then set it aside and allow it to cool. Test the temperature of the liquid by placing a thermometer into the tea filled cup.
When the tea has reached room temperature, (approximately 70-80 degrees) it’s ready for use. Wipe the entire length of your lashes with a green tea soaked cotton swab. Put the tea on your eyelids as well, right at the lash line.
Let your eyelashes soak for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse with cool water.
As with these other methods, wait for 60 to 90 days before you deliver your final verdict.
Good Things Come To Those Who Wait
It may not be the answer that you wanted hear, but it’s an honest one. Growing your eyelashes, using whatever vice you choose is an exercise in patience.
Take a common sense approach when giving those peepers a little TLC. Make sure that your eye area and hands are both clean before beginning treatment.
Avoid rubbing your eye roughly. Avoid artificial lashes while undergoing this process. Eat foods rich in protein and the “good” fatty acids for nutritional support on your quest for luscious lashes.
Stay dedicated to the ritual that you chose. Be persistent. Be patient. Be optimistic. I’m confident that you will be pleased with the results.
Allow me to leave with you, this final thought. No matter how insignificant any given moment may seem, apprecite every sight, sound, smell, and nuance in between. Remember that it could all be gone, in a blink of an eye.
